Child Safety Week

Child Sexual Abuse has far-reaching physical, social, and mental health effects and often the survivor suffer in silence because of the shame and stigma associated with the experience. Yet, due to complex interplay of individual, familiar and social factors, parents and families often prefer silence rather than confronting offenders or reporting incidents. This choice of inaction only promotes the ill. It also perpetuates a lack of accountability for the issue, as it underplays the scale of the problem. So, breaking the silence is crucial in eradicating the CSA.

Child Safety Week is a collaborative movement initiated by Arpan to raise awareness and encourage collective action to address the issue of Child Sexual Abuse. It is observed every year between 14 – 20th November. Learning Space Foundation has been celebrating Child Safety Week from 2020.

Why the week of 14th – 20th November?

  • Children’s Day in India (14th Nov)
  • World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse (19th Nov)
  • International Children’s Day (20th Nov)

Child Safety Week – 2022

Child Sexual Abuse is an offence that can happen anywhere, and the offenders can be known people. Prevention is the key in dealing with this issue and raising awareness is the first step towards prevention. Many children are traumatized and suffering in silence. The impact can be lifelong for some children. Now it’s time to break the silence and show them that we will stand with them, for them!

Learning Space Foundation celebrated this year’s Child Safety Week by organizing various activities.

  • Child Safety Awareness Walkathon (CSAW) on 27 Nov 2022
  • Awareness sessions by Sreyobhilaashis across Telangana & Andhra Pradesh
  • Poster-making and Slogan-writing competitions
  • Participation in Tweet Relay

Child Safety Week – 2021

We believe that complete eradication of CSA will only happen with better educational programs. We have been conducting personal safety education programmes for children through our Suraksha Aur Sammaan program and awareness sessions for adults through Sreyobhilaashi program. During the Child Safety Week this year, we organized a series of events to break the silence and stigma about this issue. Many people including a few celebrities supported us in our efforts. It is heartening to see our all-time celebrities – our team of Sreyobhilaashis across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh conducted awareness sessions on personal safety for children.

Learning Space Foundation celebrated this year’s Child Safety Week by organizing various activities.

  • Child Safety Pledge Campaign Launch
  • Awareness sessions by Sreyobhilaashis across Telangana & Andhra Pradesh

I am working as a biological science teacher in Khammam district. Firstly I would like to thank Learning Space team for adding me in 3-day Sreyobhilaashi workshop. Before attending this classes I thought that I know something about adult education and also about the child abuse. But after attending the workshop, I came to know that I know nothing about these things. Earlier we used to teach, but we were also in a confusion about how far we have to discuss these topics and how to approach them freely. Now after attending this workshop, I know how to teach the children about personal safety in an age-appropriate manner. I will try my best to teach my school children and also children from nearby schools. I will be ever thankful to you to Learning Space Foundation for making me part of this wonderful initiative.
